Storage

Transportation

Folding boats are most easily transported using a boat trailer. We've put together a few tips for you.

  • The size and carrying capacity of the trailer should be designed for the dimensions of the boat. It makes little sense from a safety standpoint to use a large trailer, since it brings with it only more trouble and exertion to haul the boat to the water.
  • The hull should contact as much of the hanger as possible. Where possible, a setup with numerous rollers and cushions is preferable.
  • Cross beams are preferable to rollers because they offer more contact surface.
  • Configure the crossbeams and rollers to reflect the shape of your boat. The keel line is generally the strongest part of the hull and should serve as the guideline for contact with the hanger.
  • The best trailers have high-performance springs, large wheels and hot galvanized finishes to guarantee easy handling and long service lives.
  • Do not haul the boat on a trailer unless it is fully inflated. Fasten it on the bow-side grommets and the lateral towing rings.
  • Lash the boat down tightly and fasten the engine shaft in the space provided for that purpose.
  • For longer trips we recommend covering up the boat to guard against flying stones and dust.

Storage on water

Where possible, simple store the boat in its natural element. This is practical and saves time. Only a few factors must be taken into consideration. Avoid leaving any residual water in the boat during winter, as this can cause frost damage. We recommend using a tarp as a cover; otherwise be sure to let out a little air if the craft is subjected to strong sunlight. Always be sure to moor the boat securely so that it'll stay right where you left it. Learning a few sailor's knots makes docking and casting off must easier. That'll spare some raw nerves. Don't leave a tank or oars in the boat. Always raise the motor and fasten it in place.

During longer anchorages, vegetation can grow on the bottom. This can be prevented using special anti-fouling paints. Talk with a specialized dealer to avoid damaging the material by using incorrect products. These simple measures can ensure majestic days on the water without requiring too much effort.

Winter storage

To the extent that you don't want to dismantle your boat, the simplest method and the one that requires the least space is a protected location. Outdoor storage where exposed to the elements is not recommended.

  • Cover the boat, either using a canvas or tarp, checking that dry air can still circulate.
  • Cold temperatures cause the mesh to freeze and lose some of its elasticity, so do not move the boat when it has been lying out in the cold.
  • Store your boat on a hanger; you can preserve the springs and wheels by positioning the hanger on a hardtop surface.
  • Winter is also the best time of year to do a check-up on the engine so that you'll be ready to go when the warm weather returns.
  • Under no circumstances should the engine be left outside.
